Mary Ruth Flippo

Mary Ruth Dean Flippo was born April 5, 1937, to Fred Henry Dean and Delia Wells Dean in Franklin County, Tennessee, where she enjoyed growing up on her family farm. This is likely where her love of gardening began, which she enjoyed well into her 80s. After graduation from Franklin County High school and cosmetology school, she married the love of her life Glenn Flippo in August of 1958 in Corinth, Mississippi. She then began her life as a devoted mother to her three children, Jerry Wayne, Sandra Kay, and Glenda Joy. Once her children were raised, she embarked on a second career at AEDC. There, she worked for many years before retiring to spend more time in her flowers and with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. “Nanny” was well known for spoiling all of her grands with love and affection. If she read a book to them no words were skipped, plenty of embellishment was added, and every character had its own voice. She also enjoyed her animals. Glenn ran the cattle and horse operation, but Mary Ruth had her own flock of ducks, geese, peacocks, dogs, cats, and other creatures who were also spoiled by her. She loved to support Glenn, her children, and her grands, and was always there cheering them on at many horse shows. It was never too cold, too wet, or too late for her. Mary Ruth peacefully went to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, December 29, 2025. She is preceded in death by her parents and one sibling Nancy Dean Carroll. She is survived by brothers Robert (Maxine) Dean, Larry (Gail) Dean, and one sister Betty Dean Drummond. She is also survived by her husband Glenn Howard Flippo, son Jerry Flippo, daughters Kay Flippo and Joy (Chris) Taylor. Grandchildren Kayelyn (Austin) Mills, Jocelyn Davenport, and Scotty (Amber) Sudberry. Great grandchildren Karaline Sudberry, Kendall Mason, Grayson Taylor, Harper Taylor, and Clara Mills. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 5, 2026, at 12:00 PM from the chapel of Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Gault Cemetery in Franklin County.
