Ruby Nell Lumbley of Normandy, Tennessee passed from this life on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee at the age of 72 years. We want to honor the life of our beloved aunt, a woman whose spirit touched each of us in profound ways. Aunt Ruby, more fondly known as RuRu, was more than just a family member; she was a beacon of love, kindness, and unwavering faith to everyone who crossed her path. From the moment we were old enough to understand what it meant to be loved; Aunt Ruby showed us. She had a heart of gold—a heart that never knew an unkind thought, a heart that welcomed everyone with open arms, a heart that overflowed with the love of Jesus. Her faith was her anchor, guiding her through life's storms with a grace that inspired us all. Aunt Ruby had a unique gift for making everyone feel special. She was our cheerleader, always there to lift us up when we were down, to encourage us when we doubted ourselves, and to celebrate our victories, big or small. In her presence, you could feel the warmth of her love and the sincerity of her belief in you. She had a way of making you believe that you could do anything, no matter how daunting the challenge. She was a soft place to fall—an oasis of peace and understanding in a world that can sometimes be harsh and unforgiving. Whether we were facing life's inevitable struggles or simply needed a shoulder to lean on, Aunt Ruby was there, offering comfort and support with her gentle spirit. She had a rare and beautiful quality of being able to listen without judgment, to love without condition, and to forgive without hesitation. Aunt Ruby knew hardship, yet she persevered with a strength that was quiet but mighty. She faced tremendous odds with courage and faith, never letting the weight of her burdens dim her light. She taught us, through her example, that it is not the challenges we face that define us, but how we rise above them. Ruby had a special way of bringing joy into the simplest of moments. She had a love for crochet, spending countless hours crafting beautiful blankets and little treasures for everyone she loved. Each stitch was a labor of love, a tangible expression of her care and thoughtfulness. Many of us still cherish the pieces she made, which now carry even more meaning as we remember her. Alongside her crochet, she had a passion for Disney movies, finding joy in their timeless magic. She could recite the lines of her favorite films and would often gather us around to share in the laughter and wonder they brought. Watching a Disney movie with RuRu was a tradition we’ll all hold dear, one that brought us closer and filled our hearts with happiness. Ruby was also a keen observer, a trait that made her the perfect card-playing companion during family gatherings. Whether it was a lively game of Rook, Uno, Canasta, or a relaxed evening with a deck of cards, she played not just to win, but to connect with those around her. Those gatherings were filled with laughter, stories, and a sense of belonging that her very presence effortlessly created. She had a special way with babies, especially her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. While she never had children of her own, these children were the light of her life, and she cared for them as if they were her own. Being with RuRu was a sanctuary where everyone, regardless of age, felt loved and welcomed. She never knew a stranger; everyone who crossed her path was met with her kindness and warmth. Aunt Ruby truly embodied the philosophy of being kind and doing great things. Her life was a testament to the power of love and generosity. She taught us that greatness is not measured by the grandness of our deeds, but by the kindness in our hearts. Through her actions, she showed us the importance of compassion, understanding, and the simple yet profound act of being kind to one another. Ruby leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to inspire us, reminding us to live with the same grace and kindness that she did every day of her life. Though our hearts ache with her loss, we find comfort in knowing that Aunt Ruby is now with the Lord she loved so dearly. Her spirit lives on in the countless lives she touched, in the love she so freely gave, and in the faith that sustained her through it all. Today, we say goodbye to a woman who embodied all that is good and true, a woman who will forever be remembered for her kindness, her gentleness, and her unwavering love. Rest now, Aunt Ruby. You will always be our soft place to fall, our cheerleader, and our heart of gold. We love you, and we will carry your memory in our hearts forever
